Oktoberfest Hike

We're heading to Maryland's beautiful Eastern Shore for our own take on Oktoberfest - a hike and hops - on Saturday, October 10 at Tuckahoe State Park and Adkins Arboretum in Queen Anne County, MD.

First, the hike: We'll hike about 4 miles along Tuckahoe Creek and around the outskirts of Adkins Arboretum, a preserve of 400 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and meadows. The hike will be almost completely flat.

Tuckahoe Creek, named for the arrow arum, a sturdy wetland plant also called "tuckahoe," runs through the heart of this park. The wooded wetlands have defined this land for centuries and offer a glimpse back in time. The wetlands are home to a variety of songbirds and amphibians.

Doggies are welcome on this hike but must be kept on leash at all times. Pet owners must clean up after their pet.

Next, the hops: On our way back home, we'll stop by Ten Eyck Brewing Company for lunch and libations. Assuming it's warm enough, we'll eat in the beer garden; if not, we'll sit in the taproom.

Ten Eyck means "at the oak" and is owned by a team of women veterans, first responders, and ruggers. Leashed, well-behaved dogs are allowed in the beer garden and taproom. From the Ten Eyck website: "Can I bring my spouse? Of course! Well-behaved spouses are allowed off-leash in the taproom and beer garden."
