Women Outdoors Online Funtimes!
(WOOF)

What is WOOF?

We started the WOOF series because of the pandemic, and since then, the series has brought presentations such as online dance and exercise sessions, a book group devoted to books by and about women in the outdoors, workshops on open-water swimming and survival skills, preparing for a winter road trip and more. Some presentations are given by experts, while some are offered by fellow members. Interested in presenting? Please see the module below to see how you can take part.

Note: Members will be sent announcements for these events, but you can register directly from the links below. After you register, you will be sent a confirmation email with Zoom Meeting details. Be sure to add NoReply@womenoutdoors.org and WildApricot.org to your contacts or whitelist to ensure that automated announcement, registration, and confirmation emails don't get blocked.

How Can I Contribute?

We welcome your help. Do you want to present, hold a casual meeting, or suggest an event you'd like to have somebody else lead? Please feel free to write to us at WOOF@womenoutdoors.org, and we'll be sure to respond.

When it comes to leading an event or giving a presentation yourself, don't worry if you're not familiar with how to do it or don't have a Zoom account: you don't have to do this on your own. The board has an unlimited-time account that we can use, and we're more than happy to be on the call with you in whatever fashion you need. We can make you a cohost so you have the power to mute/unmute participants, for example, set up breakout rooms for larger gatherings, or we can do these things for you.

1. If you need some ideas on what you could do on Zoom, here are a few:

    • Crafting night
    • Games night
    • Photos and stories from travels

2. If you have an expert in mind for hosting a presentation, we'd be happy to field your suggestions and work with you to make it happen. Talk to your Regional Contact(s) about whether she/they would like to join in with the national organization to compensate somebody by chipping in half of the $100/hour fee we've approved: there are regional funds available if your RC(s) agree/s with the presentation idea.

Once again, to contact us, the email is WOOF@womenoutdoors.org.

Let us know what type of meeting you're thinking about and what days/times you'd be interested in holding it. We'll have a presenter form available soon in order to vet and recompense professionals.

We look forward to your thoughts and/or your pitching in.

Questions & Answers

Q: What's the cost?

A: Zero. WOOF events are available free to all Women Outdoors members in good standing. We bring these to you in the spirit of building community and leadership skills, promoting physical fitness year-round, as well as keeping us all safe and comfortable in the outdoors.  It's just one more benefit of being a Women Outdoors member, and we're thrilled to bring them to you.

Q: How do we keep WOOF going?

A: It's up to all of us to make these events happen, and that means we all have to pitch in with leading WOOF events and/or suggesting presenters. Send your ideas to WOOF@womenoutdoors.org.

Q: I want to lead an event, but I'm not very technical. Can you help?

A: ABSOLUTELY!

Q: What do I need to participate, either as a presenter or a participant?

A: If you're reading this, you already have the technology you need. Just like with any Zoom call, it's best to have a computer, but mobile devices can do in a pinch. Good lighting on your face is preferable for both presenters and participants, as is a quiet background.

Q: I have an idea for a WOOF event. Whom should I contact?

A: Send an email to WOOF@womenoutdoors.org and let us know what type of meeting you're thinking about and what days/times you'd be interested in holding it. We'll have a presenter form available soon in order to vet and recompense professionals.

Q: Is there a particular day/time I can look forward to having a WOOF event to go to?

A: We generally hold WOOF events on early Sunday  evenings, but that can be flexible. Think early evenings, since we don't want to overlap with whatever outdoor daytime activities are occurring.

Q: What are these regional funds of which you speak?

A: Whenever a member joins Women Outdoors, part of her fee is deposited in a fund kept on behalf of her region. That money is meant to be spent on YOU: on fun, skills, outings, etc. Regional contacts are always looking for ways to spend it, so don’t be shy about asking how much is available or telling your Regional Contact(s) what you’d like to see that money go toward. If you want to know how much your region has, you can ask your Regional Contact. RCs, if you don't know how much money is in your regional fund, please ask us at Treasurer@womenoutdoors.org
