Paddle the Patuxent

We had so much fun exploring Mattawoman Creek in August, we decided to do it again, but on a different body of water. Come explore the Patuxent River with Becky and Leah.

This time we will carry our lunch with us and will stop to eat at Mt. Calvert Historical & Archaeological Park. There may even be picnic tables there, but there is definitely a large grassy lawn if no tables.

The Patuxent River is the most important freshwater tidal estuary in the Chesapeake Bay region. Jug Bay has been designated an "Important Birding Area" by the National Audubon Society.

Beginner to advanced kayakers are all welcome!

No boat? No problem! You’ll be able to rent a canoe or kayak at Jackson’s Landing. Rates are for the day, rather than the hour,  so we  will not have to keep an eye on the time!

Canoe & Kayak Rentals
Rental Options
Resident
Non-Resident
 Kayak  $25/boat  $33/boat
 Canoe or Tandem Kayak
 $30/boat  $39/boat

Reservations are required; however this time, please indicate on your registration if you are bringing your own boat or will need a rental.

If renting, you will be asked to bring cash (either $25 or $30). Becky will then reserve a fleet of boats for the whole group. PFDs will be included with your rental. Taxes are already included in the above fees.

If bringing your own boat, be sure and also bring your own PFD and safety whistle. There is no launch fee if you bring your own boat.

PFDs are required for all paddlers and must be worn properly (not strapped on the deck of your kayak) throughout the entire trip.

This activity is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are welcome to attend two WO events as guests. On your third event, we'll ask you to join the Mid-Atlantic Region of Women Outdoors. You can also join right now by clicking on this Join Us link.

Registration is limited to 12 participants and will close on Friday, September 9, whichever comes first.
