HIKE at Cummings Nature Center

  • 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Naples, NY

Registration is closed

**UPDATE** Skiing is not recommended as there are many bare patches. I'm told that there isn't even enough snow for snow shoes, but micro-spikes are a good idea if you have them. So we will be hiking instead. The 3 miles of purple trails will be open for us to hike, and possibly others. Note: It will be VERY COLD, with a high of 21 degrees.

We hope you can join us for a cross-country ski event at Cummings Nature Center, Naples, NY.   Enjoy 15 miles of well-groomed trails. There are also snow shoe trails.  These trails are one of the most picturesque places in the Finger Lakes region. The nature center has many stuffed animals on display and many informational displays about birds. There is a lower level in the nature center where you can look out into a bird sanctuary.  There are tables and fire place on the lower level as well where you can have a snack or eat lunch, with a refrigerator up near the information desk where you can leave your lunch. They sell water, hot cocoa and popcorn.

*FEE*: For Rochester Museum science center members it is free admission.  For the general public it is a $3 donation. It costs $15 to rent (skis, poles and shoes)

Dogs are welcome

*LEVEL OF EXPERTISE* for this trip: easy to moderate. Most of the trip will be easy with some small hills.

*WHAT TO BRING*:  You can wear moderately thick snow pants, but do not wear long johns underneath. When you go cross country, you work up a sweat so you don’t need too many layers. But if you are wearing very light snow pants (a thin layer), then long johns underneath would be appropriate.

Wear gloves, hat, scarf. Bring water with you if you can on the trails.

Bring a lunch or snack for later – put it in the main refrigerator near the information desk.
