Hike at Buttermilk Falls State Park

  • 18 Aug 2018
  • 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Ithaca, NY

Registration

Registration is closed

We will meet in the main lot

We will walk up the Gorge trail for 0.75 miles.  The trail is along the gorge, steep, with lots and lots of steps. The scenery is of Buttermilk Creek, the gorge, waterfalls and rock formations.  At the top we will have 2 choices:

1.           Turn left and return on the Rim trail back to the parking lot for another 0.75 miles (totals less than 2 miles).

2.           Continue straight onto Bear trail and then back around thru the upper parking lot and down the Rim or Gorge trail for 1.75 miles (totals 2.5 miles)

There is the option of stopping at Purity for ice cream afterwards or you can go swimming on your own.

  • What to bring

Bring water, poles and bug spray, AND a lunch so we can picnic when we get back to the parking lot. There is a swimming area at the bottom of the falls, near the parking, so bring swim gear if you'd like to swim after the hike.

  • Directions

The entrance to the park is off of Route 13 south, just south of Ithaca.  If coming from the north it's a left hand turn off of 13.  Address: 112 E. Buttermilk Falls Rd.

  • Important to know

$7 or $8 vehicle charge. *NO dogs please*. *Limit to 16* in the group so RSVP early - and please cancel your RSVP if you decide not to attend. Please respond by that day before 9:30 am.

RSVP and Cancellations – IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ

Please respect the trip leader and update your RSVP if you sign-up but then are unable to attend. Please also RSVP early, especially if there are only a few signed up. Events may be cancelled due to lack of attendance, as well as changes in weather or other circumstances. So be sure to RSVP and share your cell phone number when asked, as events may have changed and you will not receive notification. If you must cancel at the last minute, call or text the event host/trip leader, as not all leaders have access to the Meetup app on their phones (let her know who it is who is calling/texting). Contact information is included in your registration confirmation. Be sure to copy down the address, directions, and trip leader contact information to bring with you as there might not be good cell service at the event location.

This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are invited to join us on two events to see what you think. The third time's a charm - we'll ask you to join Women Outdoors at that point. You can join now by clicking on Join Us.
