Summer is here! Let’s go kayaking!!

This will be a round trip kayaking/canoe adventure. We will meet in the parking area by the pond. We will kayak across the pond to a connecting pond to a creek which will take us to South Sandy Creek where we will turn left and in a short distance we will have reach the mouth of Lake Ontario where we will pull up on the beach and eat lunch, walk the beach, maybe swim or not then get back in the water and return to South Coldwell Pond. Along our journey we will have the opportunity to see various plants/grasses, wildlife and variety of birds. My best guess is that from put in to take out is about 6-6.5 miles. This will be a leisurely paddle so count on a few hours in the outdoors.

See a map which shows the ponds and the roads:
http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/regions_pdf/lakeview.pdf

MUST THINGS TO BRING: kayak, canoe, paddle, lifejacket, whistle, water shoes and plenty of water to drink

Other things to bring: food, bug spray, hat, change of clothes, towel, etc., etc.

We will be putting in South Colwell Pond which is located off Montario Point Road in the town of Ellisburg. For directions to the put in, if you have a smartphone and google maps just type in South Colwell Pond in the search line and it will give you the best route to take from where you are coming from.  The closest street address to the turn to go down to the pond is, 9566 Montario Point Rd, Mannsville, NY 13661.
