Paddle Canadice Lake

Registration is closed

Canadice Lake is the smallest Finger Lake, and as part of the Rochester water system it's shores are undeveloped. Motorboats are limited to 16 ft and 10 hp, so the lake is friendly to  paddlers

We'll launch from the southern launch site, which requires an easy 200 ft carry from the parking area down to the water.

Typical time to circumnavigate the lake is about 4 hours, but we can choose how long to stay out. We'll plan on taking a couple of stretch breaks utilizing some of the beaches along the shore.

If the weather is nice, and we choose, we can have dinner at the launch beach. We'll plan that as the time gets closer.

Paddling on Canadice Lake is generally good for beginners, as long as the weather is mild. Wind can kick up waves that make it more challenging. We'll check in as the date approaches.

I'm limiting this to 8 paddlers since I don't enjoy large groups. If you sign up and find you can't make it, please update your RSVP accordingly. I'm willing to schedule another outing on Hemlock or Canadice if demand is high.

What to Bring

  • Canoe or kayak, PFD (MUST be worn), and paddle.
  • Snacks and water. Lots of water. Or other fluids.
  • Hat, rain gear, clothing to match the conditions (non-cotton preferred)
  • Sunscreen
  • Dinner (if you choose)

Meet at: Parking area, kiosk, and porta potty on west side of Canadice Lake Rd

Rentals  If you don't have a boat, you can rent a kayak from Canadice Lake Outfitters, which will include a pfd and delivery to the launch sitehttp://www.canadicelakeoutfitters.com/canoe-rental-kayak-rental.html

They offer 4 hour rental groupon for $20 https://www.groupon.com/deals/canadice-lake-outfitters

Facilities
There is a porta-potty in the parking area. There is no water or supplies available

Weather Cancellation
We'll paddle in light rain, but probably reschedule for heavy rain, and definitely reschedule for thunder and lightning storms. I'm not overly fond of paddling in strong wind on a long lake like this, either.

This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are invited to join us on two events to see what you think. The third time's a charm - we'll ask you to join Women Outdoors at that point. You can join now by clicking on Join Us

You can also join our Meetup Group: http://www.meetup.com/Women-Outdoors-Finger-Lakes/ and you'll be able to share in the conversation with other attendees, ask about car-pooling, borrow equipment, etc. RSVP here or on Meetup.
