We'll be camping at Nick's Lake (http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24485.html), in the DEC campground just outside of Old Forge. This is a family campground and not a wilderness experience – you’ll have access to flush toilets, hot showers, dishwashing sinks, and running water (but no electricity at the site).

We have a site in the C-Loop, which has updated bathrooms and showers. The site allows up to 6 people, and we have space for 3 more. Sleeping space is available in my large, 8 person tent, and we have plenty of general camping equipment so you can come even if you don't have camping gear. You can join us for 1, 2, or 3 nights.

We’ll each plan on providing our own food, but that doesn’t preclude us from sharing or creating a potluck!

Activities

We are planning on some easy day paddles (canoe or kayak) in the area, possibilities include Nick's Lake, Moss Lake, and South Inlet on Raquette Lake. There are rental places in Old Forge and at the campground for on-site use.

If you're not interested in boating there is an easy hike around Nick's Lake and several other easy hikes in the area. Old Forge offers shopping and tourist activities (http://www.oldforgeny.com/what.html), there is a nearby chairlift to the top of McCauley Mountain, and the Adirondack Museum is 35 miles down the road in Blue Mountain Lake. The campground also offers fishing (license required), volleyball, horseshoes, basketball and more than 3 miles of paved roads for the biker or jogger. There is always hanging around the camp and relaxing, and this time of year the bugs are usually minimal.

If you're interested contact AprilMiller.WO@gmail.com for more information.

Cost: $0 – The cost to rent the site is minimal. We are paying for this out of our region funds, so no cost to you other than providing yourself with camping equipment, food, etc.

Note: if you don't have camping equipment contact us and we'll help you with loaners

Directions will be sent when you RSVP.
