Hike: Huckleberry Swamp is only 5 mins away and a very nice, easy hike that will take less than an hour. 79 acres of diverse, high quality wetlands for bird and wildlife habitat conservation. A wildlife observation deck and boardwalk meanders through a variety of wetland habitats including emergent marsh, Green Ash Wetland, and Red Maple Wetland. Huckleberry Swamp provides significant functions including storm water retention, groundwater recharge, wildlife habitat, and possibly rare plant habitat. Springtime heron rookery. See ofofinc.org for more information and directions.
Please NO dogs, as I have chickens running all over my yard!!! (and they’re also not allowed in the swamp)
I'm making pork roast for pulled pork sandwiches. Please bring a dish to pass, or ice, cups, plates, utensils, etc. Also please bring whatever you like to drink, including spirits/beer!!
PLEASE NOTE: Anyone who's coming from a long distance and wishes to stay over, you are welcome to do so. I have two extra queen beds and 3 long couches that are very comfortable!!! We'll turn it into a slumber party!!
Dress according to the weather and bring bug spray (it is a swamp!), camera, binoculars, etc. Because it's such an easy hike, you don't need a change of clothes for the hike and BBQ, unless you just want to, or it's hot and muggy (NOOO!!!!).
Where to meet: My house so you can drop off whatever you're bringing and then we can car pool to Huckleberry Swamp. RSVP for the address.
