Billy Goat Hike and Scramble

  • 10 Apr 2010
  • 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Potomac, MD

Registration

  • A fun and challenging half day hike along the Potomac River.

Enjoy one of the best close-in hikes in the Washington metro area.
It's not called the Billy Goat Trail for nothing.  This perennial favorite offers some of the best views around.   The hike is only a few miles long, but there are definitely some challenging rock scrambles.  Be sure and wear your hiking boots for this one.

There will probably be lots of other hikers enjoying the Billy Goat trail on a spring day, so we're getting a little earlier start than usual.  Bring snacks or a lunch to enjoy while we sit on the rocks overlooking the Potomac and watch the whitewater kayakers.

This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors Mid-Atlantic.  Non-members are invited to join us on two events before we ask you to join Women Outdoors.  Our meeting place, Great Falls Tavern Visitors Center, used to charge a $5.00 entrance fee, but we hear they no longer do.

Please register no later than 12:00 p.m., Friday, April 9, and include a telephone number in case of last minute changes.  Thanks.

Special note on the Billy Goat hike:  As of April 8, the river level has fallen to 4.4 feet and the trail is no longer under water.  (When we checked on March 31, the trail was underwater and the river stage at Little Falls was 7.6 feet.  The river level needed to fall below 5.2 feet for the trail to be reopened.)
